In the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, our faculty are proud to educate and make discoveries alongside the next generation of scientists.

Roland Pittman and Carlos Escalante SessionOur M.S. and Ph.D. programs provide rigorous scientific education and hands-on laboratory experience in a close-knit and collaborative environment. With individualized attention from faculty mentors and access to state-of-the-art research facilities, students in our graduate programs gain the knowledge and skills necessary for successful careers across a broad range of fields including medicine, dentistry, academia, government and private industry.

Researchers in the department also offer opportunities for undergraduate students interested in physiology and biophysics to volunteer in their labs.

Research

Under the supervision of a faculty member, each graduate student conducts an independent research project. Our investigators are at the forefront of basic and translational research in areas ranging from smell and taste loss to antidepressant effects of psychedelic drugs. Here, students have the opportunity to help make discoveries that will shape the future of health care.
